Cast of “Blagojevich Superstar” to be interviewed by Blago himself!

Blago to interview Blago

blagospoofThose listening to WLS AM radio at 7am this  Wednesday morning will hear something quite unique – ex-Gov Blago will be interviewing two stars of the Second City spoof of Blago himself, entitled “Rod Blagojevich Superstar” –  Joey Bland, who plays Blagojevich, and Mike Bradecich (who plays both Ald. Dick Mell and D.A. Patrick Fitzgerald). Second City’s popular review, now playing at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre at Navy Pier, is a foul-mouthed portrayal of the ex-governor’s legal woes (which is apt, after one hears the Blago’s expletive-laced phone conversations).  The show also takes shots at Blago’s wife, Patti.

So why is the ex-Gov on the radio to begin with?  It seems that he is sitting in on the regularly scheduled “Wade and Roma” show at WLS AM while the duo are on vacation. He was a guest on the program just last week after he took a hiatus from a full-blown media blitz earlier this year.

Ah, the joys of Chicago’s ultimate theatrical event: politics

Think Fast: Chicago Dramatists’ fundraiser and Porchlight Theatre in Japan

 Company-Photo-2008

  • Chicago Dramatists’ “$30 for 30” campaign, in its first week, has gathered 111 donations and raised a total of $11,300.  Though nowhere near at the moment, the theatre’s goal of 500 donations is well within reach, even more so with my reader’s help –  PLEASE DONATE NOW!

Eugene and Walter toast their trip and feast on Japanese cuisine, their favorite!  "Pacific Overtures" can soon be experienced at the Theatre Building.

  • In preparation of Pacific Overtures, Director L. Walter Stearns and Music Director Eugene Dizon traveled to Tokyo and Shimoda, Japan. In the process they penned a three part essay that chronicled their travels, discoveries, and eye-opening experiences on the way.  You can read the third-installment after the fold. In addition, Porchlight Music Theatre has been maintaining a cool behind-the-Pacific-Overtures production blog.  “Pacific Overtures” has now completed its first-week run.

Sunday Night Sondheim – glorious “Sunday” at Carnegie Hall

Wow.  This choir arrangement of Sunday, by Stephen Sondheim, is absolutely glorious.  As YouTube’s video notes:

Bernadette Peters kicks off this wonderful choral performance of “Sunday”, the finale from Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park With George“. This piece was the finale of a 1993 concert televised by PBS Great Performances.
