Mark’s Gospel, starring Max McLean, the hit Chicago premiere presented through May 17 at The Mercury Theater, is featuring a special Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday, May 10.  The first 25 moms to arrive at the theater prior to the 3 p.m. show will receive a treat-filled spring gift bag from popular Southport candy shop Candyality.  All mothers in attendance will receive a rose from Southport Blooms, and after the performance everyone in the audience is invited to indulge in complimentary cake and coffee, served by Cullen’s Bar and Grill in the lobby following the show.

"The Screwtape Letters" – New Years Show with champagne!!

"The Screwtape Letters", playing presently at The Mercury Theater on Southport. THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS, the hit play based on C.S. Lewis’ classic novel, now playing at The Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport Avenue , will feature expanded holiday performance schedule to include December 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. and a special New Year’s Eve performance on December 31.   After the New Year’s Eve 8 p.m. show, there will be a champagne toast in the theater lobby followed by a special talk-back with Max McLean (co-creator and star) and Jeffrey Fiske (co-creator and director), who will foster audience discussions about the show’s provocative themes and answer questions about how they adapted C.S. Lewis’ classic novel into a hit stage production.

"The Screwtape Letters" to celebrate C.S. Lewis’ 110th Birthday

screwtapeletters The Screwtape Letters, the hit drama based on C.S. Lewis class novel of the same name, now playing at the Mercury Theater, will host a birthday celebration in honor of Lewis’s 110th birthday on Thursday, December 4th.  Following the 8pm performance, a panel of leading C.S. Lewis experts will discuss his influence as on of the most provocative theologians of all time.  Following the talk, audience members (and that could be you!) will be invited to enjoy birthday cake and coffee provided by Cullen’s Bar and Grill.  Yum!

“Rocky Horror Picture Show” unexpectantly closes

rockyhorror.jpgLooks like The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Mercury Theater will be unexpectantly closing tomorrow (Sunday)!  The show had recently been listed as running into December, and when it opened there were hopes that it would run indefinitely.  Although Rocky… received generally passable reviews (recommended by the Trib and TimeOut, and highly-recommended New City), this wasn’t enough to keep it chugging along.  Chris Jones offers some comments and advice
