Aug 23: Babes with Blades opens Last Daughter of Oedipus

Babes With Blades will open their world premiere production of The Last Daughter of Oedipus on Monday, August 23, 2010.

The show follows Ismene, the sole surviving child of Oedipus and Jocasta, as she fights to break the curse that devastated her family and now threatens to destroy Thebes.

’The Last Daughter of Oedipus’ came out of my curiosity to know what happened to Ismene, who basically disappears from mythology after the death of Antigone, “ says Jennifer Mickelson, the author of the show. “Writing the play allowed me to discover a story for this lost character and explore the rarely-told beginning of the Oedipus myths.

Says director Tara Branham, “I want audiences to leave questioning how much of every day of their lives are lived for someone or something else and whether or not that can sustain their existence. When do we stop trying to justify our past,” she continues, “and start the struggle toward our future?”
